Jerry Black (Jack Nicholson) is a veteran cop who lives in Nevada and is about to retire. On his last day of service he receives the mission to check the place where the murder of a girl aged 7 and tell his family what happened. With the desperate mother, Jerry promises to find the culprit of the crime and, therefore, decides to investigate the case aided by Stan KRÓLAK (Aaron Eckhart), another cop. Together they come up Toby Jay Wadenah (Benicio Del Toro), a man with mental problems who takes responsibility for the crime and soon after committed suicide. KRÓLAK enc considers the case, but Jerry does not believe that Toby Jay is the killer and, even retired, decided to continue the investigation on their own. Edit
